France Deploys Rafale Jets Over UAE to Protect Military Bases from Iranian Attacks
In a significant security escalation, France has deployed advanced Dassault Rafale fighter jets over the United Arab Emirates to protect its military installations from potential Iranian attacks. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed this strategic move on Tuesday, March 3, highlighting the growing regional tensions.

France maintains a substantial military presence in the UAE, with hundreds of navy, air force, and army personnel stationed across the country. The Rafale aircraft are specifically positioned at the Al-Dhafra air base near Abu Dhabi, a key facility for French operations in the region.
"These Rafales and their pilots are mobilised to ensure the security of our facilities," Barrot stated in an interview with BFMTV. He emphasized that the jets have conducted operations to secure the airspace above French bases, responding to threats from Iranian drones over the weekend.

The deployment follows a direct attack on Sunday, where a drone struck a hangar at a French base in the UAE. Barrot noted that discussions are intensifying to enhance defense strategies against future assaults and safeguard French interests in the area.
This action comes in the wake of coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on Saturday, March 1, which resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has targeted US allies and military assets throughout the Gulf, sparking a chain of defensive measures.

The conflict has already affected critical infrastructure in the UAE. Authorities reported that debris from a drone interception caused a fire at an oil industry zone in Fujairah on Tuesday, though it was quickly contained. In a related development, technology giant Amazon disclosed late Monday that two of its data centers in the UAE were "directly struck" by drones, disrupting cloud services across parts of the Middle East.
