Gbajabiamila: Almost Lost Job Over Desmond Elliot

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has narrated how he almost lost his job due to the involvement of Surulere Constituency 1 lawmaker Desmond Elliot in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a viral video from a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) members, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu had called him during the impeachment saga of Obasa, challenging that Desmond was among those involved. He was asked to warn the known actor.

“He is part of the people causing problems in Lagos Assembly. I am telling you from intelligence that he was part of them. Go and tell him to retrace his steps,” Gbajabiamila quoted Tinubu as telling him.

However, he said he told the president that the lawmaker wasn’t part of them, although he had not spoken with Desmond to confirm his involvement. “I just said he wasn’t,” the Chief of Staff said.

Gbajabiamila said he called Desmond, telling him that if he was part of the group, he should get out. Unfortunately, “he (Desmond) started cutting corners.”

Three days later, Gbajabiamila said he was informed of a problem: his name was being mentioned all over the place, with claims that he was supporting Desmond. “Of course the president will not believe Desmond would do such a thing and I would not know,” he stated.

He noted that he called Desmond again to make a public statement denying involvement in the controversy, but nothing positive came out. “If not for the kind of relationship I had with the president, I wouldn’t be here today,” Gbajabiamila concluded.
