Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with the economic reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described the measures as necessary steps toward long-term economic recovery and national prosperity.
Eid-el-Kabir Message
In his Eid-el-Kabir message released on Tuesday, the former Senate Chief Whip urged citizens not to lose faith in the country despite prevailing economic hardships. He stressed that the reforms were aimed at rebuilding the economy and securing a more stable future for Nigerians.
Kalu acknowledged that the policies introduced by the Federal Government may be difficult in the short term, but insisted they were designed in the overall interest of the nation.
“The reforms may be painful today, but they are for good reasons and in the overall interest of Nigerians. I appeal to citizens to remain patient and supportive of the government as efforts are being made to rebuild the economy and secure a better future for all,” he said.
Call for Unity and Peace
The senator also used the occasion of the Salah celebration to preach national unity, peace and religious tolerance, warning against divisive tendencies capable of undermining the country’s stability.
He maintained that Nigeria’s economic growth would depend largely on productive investments, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment, urging the country to gradually move away from excessive consumption toward a production-based economy.
According to him, encouraging local production and investment would not only strengthen indigenous industries but also create employment opportunities for the growing youth population while reducing dependence on imports.
“We must encourage investment, local production and entrepreneurship. A production-driven economy will create jobs for our youths, strengthen local industries and reduce overdependence on imports,” Kalu stated.
Advice to Youths
The former governor further advised young Nigerians to embrace innovation, skills acquisition and enterprise development as viable pathways to self-reliance and national development.
He congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and prayed for enduring peace, improved security and economic prosperity across the country.
Kalu expressed optimism that with unity, resilience and collective sacrifice, Nigeria would overcome its current economic difficulties and emerge stronger.
