The National Christian Security Network (NCSCN) has broken its silence on the escalating diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the United States, urging President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action by appointing ambassadors to key positions.
Urgent Call for Diplomatic Appointments
In a significant development, the NCSCN has emphasized the critical need for Nigeria to fill vacant ambassadorial positions, particularly in the United States. This move comes as relations between both nations face increasing strain over various issues.
Dr. Ben Amodu, the National Chairman of NCSCN, stated that the current diplomatic vacuum is creating unnecessary challenges for Nigeria's international relations. "The absence of substantive ambassadors in crucial diplomatic posts is affecting Nigeria's ability to effectively manage its foreign policy objectives," Amodu noted.
Dismissing Christian Genocide Allegations
In a strong rebuttal to international claims, the NCSCN has categorically dismissed allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria. The organization described these claims as "misleading and exaggerated" narratives being circulated by certain international circles.
"While we acknowledge security challenges affecting all Nigerians regardless of religious affiliation, the characterization of these incidents as religious genocide is completely inaccurate," Amodu emphasized during a press briefing in Abuja.
Addressing Security Concerns
The Christian security network acknowledged that Nigeria faces security challenges that affect citizens across religious divides. However, they stressed that the situation doesn't constitute the systematic religious persecution being portrayed in some international media.
"The security situation in Nigeria is complex and affects Christians, Muslims, and adherents of traditional religions alike. We must address these challenges collectively rather than through divisive narratives," the NCSCN chairman added.
Call for Constructive Dialogue
The organization has called for more constructive engagement between Nigeria and the United States, urging both nations to focus on strengthening bilateral relations rather than allowing misunderstandings to escalate.
"We believe that through proper diplomatic channels and mutual understanding, both countries can work together to address genuine concerns while maintaining the strong historical ties that bind them," the statement concluded.
