Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after his return from the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Trump emphasized the scale of the naval movement. "We have a lot of ships going that direction just in case. We have a big flotilla going in that direction. And we'll see what happens," he stated. Further elaborating, Trump added, "We have an armada. We have a massive fleet heading in that direction, and maybe we won't have to use it. We'll see." These remarks highlight the dual nature of the deployment—both as a show of force and a potential deterrent.
Iranian Warnings and Preparedness
In response, Iranian military officials have issued stern warnings against any aggressive actions. Mohammad Pakpour, the chief commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, cautioned the US and Israel to "refrain from any miscalculation" to avoid what he termed a "more painful and regret-inducing fate." Pakpour stressed that Iranian forces are on high alert, with their "fingers on the trigger," and are "more prepared than ever" to execute orders from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The current friction has been building over recent months, particularly during Iran's protests in December and January. President Trump previously threatened to intervene if Iranian authorities used force against protesters, urging Iranians to take over institutions "if possible" and declaring the US "locked and loaded" to protect demonstrators. The Iranian government has blamed the US and Israel for the violence and casualties during these nationwide protests.
Diplomatic Accusations and Casualty Reports
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi asserted earlier this week that US threats against Iran "gave plotters an incentive" to pursue a strategy of "maximum bloodshed." In a televised statement last Saturday, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei labeled President Trump as "criminal for the casualties, damages and slander he inflicted on the Iranian nation." According to a report by Iranian state television station IRIB on Wednesday, the unrest resulted in 3,117 deaths, with 2,427 classified as "innocent civilians and security forces."
