US Senator Takes Strong Stand Against Religious Persecution
United States Senator Ted Cruz has launched a strong condemnation against the Chinese Communist Party for what he describes as serious violations of religious freedom following the abduction of Pastor Ezra Jin. The prominent Texas Republican characterized the incident as a grave breach of human dignity and religious rights.
In a detailed statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Senator Cruz expressed his satisfaction with the unanimous passage of a US Senate resolution that condemns the abduction of Pastor Jin. He described the situation as part of a disturbing pattern of systematic persecution targeting Christians throughout China.
Crackdown on Underground Church Intensifies
Senator Cruz accompanied his social media statement with a video of his Senate floor speech where he made serious allegations against Chinese authorities. He claimed that the Chinese government had initiated the largest coordinated nationwide crackdown on Christians witnessed in over forty years.
"I rise today to speak about a grave matter and a clear violation of religious freedom, human dignity, and the rule of law," Cruz declared during his Senate address.
The senator provided specific details about the operation against Zion Church, describing how on October 10, 2025, Chinese authorities conducted sweeping raids against one of China's largest unregistered Christian congregations. According to Cruz's account, the operation resulted in the arrest and wrongful detention of 23 pastors and church members.
"Pastor Jin and the members of the Zion Church were not engaged in violence. They were worshiping. They were serving God. And for that action, they are being treated as enemies of the communist state," Cruz emphasized during his speech.
Support for Nigeria's CPC Designation
The senator's strong statements about China came just one week after he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing legislation targeting religious persecution in Nigeria. This development followed President Donald Trump's decision to redesignate Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern" due to allegations of genocide against Christian communities.
In an official statement published on his website, Cruz expressed deep gratitude to President Trump, stating, "I am deeply gratified to President Trump for making this determination."
The senator noted that this designation aligned perfectly with his long-standing efforts to protect persecuted Christians in Nigeria. "I have fought for years to counter the slaughter and persecution of Christians in Nigeria, and this year introduced legislation that will lock in the designation made today," he explained.
Cruz detailed that his proposed legislation includes specific measures targeting individuals who enforce blasphemy and Sharia laws in Nigeria. "My legislation implements additional steps, including targeting those who implement blasphemy and sharia laws in Nigeria, and I am committed to working with the administration and my colleagues to advance my bill and implement these necessary measures," the senator stated.
Trump's Strong Position on Nigeria
President Trump announced Nigeria's redesignation as a Country of Particular Concern on his Truth Social platform, citing the ongoing violence against Christian communities. "Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria," he wrote. "Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a 'COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN' — But that is the least of it."
The former president added that he had directed Representatives Riley Moore and Tom Cole, along with members of the House Appropriations Committee, to thoroughly investigate the situation and report back with their findings.
"The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries," Trump stated emphatically. "We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!"
The developments come as US Congressman Riley Moore revealed on November 7, 2025, that he had submitted a resolution to Congress at President Trump's direction. Moore shared an image of the resolution on X, outlining a series of demands aimed at pressuring the Nigerian Government regarding its treatment of Christian communities.
The resolution demands call for the United States to implement firm diplomatic, economic, and security measures to address religiously motivated violence occurring in Nigeria.
