Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has officially enacted the state's fiscal plan for the 2026 financial year, signing a budget of N1.073 trillion into law.

Budget Signing Ceremony in Minna

The significant event took place on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Government House in Minna. Governor Bago gave his assent to the N1.073 trillion appropriation bill, which was passed by the state legislature. This final figure follows his initial presentation of a slightly higher N1.31 trillion budget proposal to the Niger State House of Assembly for consideration.

Breaking down the approved budget, a substantial portion, over N783 billion, is earmarked for capital expenditure. This indicates a strong focus on developmental projects and infrastructure. Meanwhile, recurrent expenditure, which covers salaries, overheads, and other operational costs, is set at over N290 billion.

Commendation for Speedy Passage

During the ceremony, Governor Bago praised the members of the 10th Niger State House of Assembly for their swift work in reviewing and passing the budget. The Speaker of the House, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, reciprocated the commendation.

Speaker Daji described the budget estimate as "the best" and noted that the scrutiny process was smooth due to the maximum cooperation received from all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He applauded Governor Bago for his dedication to providing good governance and reassured the public of the legislature's continued synergy with the executive arm to move the state forward.
