House of Representatives to Align Budget Process with National Planning Goals
The House of Representatives is set to organize a national workshop aimed at synchronizing the federal budgeting process with Nigeria's National Planning and Economic Development blueprint. This initiative seeks to address existing imperfections in the budgeting system and ensure it perfectly aligns with national planning objectives to foster sustainable development.
Lawmaker Emphasizes Need for Alignment
Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, emphasized the necessity of this alignment during a recent address in Ogun State. He highlighted that Nigeria's economy has improved tremendously, attributing this positive trajectory to the bold reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which have boosted investor confidence. Isiaka stressed the importance of sustaining this momentum to fast-track economic growth through a more coherent budget process.
Political Ambitions and Democratic Principles
Isiaka, who represents the Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of Ogun State, also expressed interest in running for the 2027 governorship election. He clarified that his decision is based on personal conviction and commitment to state development, rather than pressure or endorsements from political leaders. He warned against any perception that the race has been decided in favor of a particular individual, advocating for open competition and a level playing field in line with democratic principles and party mechanisms.
Consultations and Misconceptions
The lawmaker noted that extensive consultations with leaders and stakeholders are part of the political process but should not be misconstrued as evidence of external influence. He emphasized that his political journey has always been driven by personal belief in the causes he pursues, and he called for due process to ensure the best candidate emerges through fair discussions and engagements.
