Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has officially signed the adjusted 2026 Appropriation Bill of N766.37 billion into law. The signing ceremony took place at the Government House, Lighthouse, in Awka, the state capital, on 31 December 2025.
Budget Details and Legislative Adjustments
The governor had initially presented a draft budget of N757.88 billion to the State House of Assembly. Following extensive deliberations and scrutiny by the Eighth Assembly, led by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation under Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, the budget was revised upwards.
The final approved budget now stands at N766,374,487,705, representing an increase of N8.49 billion. The breakdown allocates N169,602,802,205 for recurrent expenditure and a substantial N596,771,685,500 for capital projects in the 2026 fiscal year.
Governor and Speaker Hail Collaborative Process
Speaking after assenting to the bill, Governor Soludo praised the state lawmakers for their diligent work. He described the budget as a strategic plan for development, not just a financial document.
"This budget is more than numbers—it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises," Soludo stated. He emphasized that the principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance remain the bedrock of his administration.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, explained that the adjustments were carefully made to balance recurrent obligations with capital funding aimed at improving the welfare of the people of Anambra.
Three Additional Laws Enacted
In addition to the budget, Governor Soludo signed three other significant bills into law on the same day. These new laws are:
- The Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025.
- The Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025.
- The Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.
The governor highlighted that these laws collectively create an enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth across the state.
