Delta LG Chairman Unveils Development Plan for Oil Community

The newly elected Chairman of Otughievwen (Otu-Jeremi) Community, in Ughelli South Local Council Area of Delta State, Augustine Garri, has unveiled his development agenda aimed at transforming the oil-rich community through educational support and critical infrastructure upgrades.

Background of the Chairman

Garri, a former National President of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Alumni Association, secured victory in a recent community leadership election and was subsequently sworn in as chairman amid high expectations for renewed development efforts.

Education Scholarship Initiative

Shortly after assuming office, he announced a yearly scholarship initiative for 12 exceptional students who sat for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations. The scheme is designed to encourage academic excellence and provide financial support for students pursuing higher education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Infrastructure Rehabilitation

In addition to the education intervention, Garri has also announced the rehabilitation of several dilapidated electricity transformers that have been non-functional for years, contributing to persistent power shortages in parts of the community. The ongoing repairs are expected to significantly improve electricity supply, boost small-scale economic activities, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents who have long struggled with unstable power infrastructure.

Commitment to Inclusive Development

He pledged to run an inclusive, development-driven administration, stressing that his leadership would prioritise human capital development, infrastructure renewal, and policies to improve living standards across the Otughievwen Community.
