The Edo State Government has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding children's rights, enhancing quality education, and advancing sports development throughout the state.
Governor Monday Okpebholo made this affirmation during the 2026 Children's Day Celebration and Governor's Cup Finale, held on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Represented by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, the governor addressed pupils, students, and teachers, describing children as the pride of Edo State and the future of the nation.
The governor emphasized that the annual celebration serves as an opportunity to honor children's dreams, talents, and boundless potential. Speaking on this year's theme, "Choose Kindness, Reject Bullying," he noted the message's timeliness and significance in fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive environments for children in schools and communities.
Governor Okpebholo stressed that bullying in all forms—physical, verbal, emotional, or online—has no place in society. He affirmed that the Edo State Government remains fully committed to protecting the rights and dignity of every child. The administration will continue to strengthen policies and programs that promote child protection, discipline, mutual respect, and positive learning environments across the state's schools.
The governor urged children to embrace kindness, compassion, teamwork, and respect for one another, asserting that true strength lies not in intimidation but in empathy, good character, and mutual understanding.
