The Lagos State Government has announced that building plan approvals can now be obtained online from anywhere in the world. The new system, launched by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), allows applicants to submit and track their building plans digitally, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices.
Global Access to Building Approvals
According to a statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the online platform is designed to make the approval process more efficient and transparent. Applicants can now access the service via the LASBCA website, regardless of their location. The move is part of the state's broader digital transformation agenda under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, stated that the initiative would reduce processing times and curb corruption. “With this e-approval system, we are ensuring that building plan approvals are processed swiftly and without human interference,” Salako said.
Key Features of the Online Platform
The online platform includes features such as real-time tracking of applications, digital payment options, and automated notifications. Applicants can also upload all required documents, including architectural drawings and structural reports, directly to the system. The platform integrates with other government databases to verify land titles and other regulatory requirements.
LASBCA General Manager, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, explained that the system has been tested extensively to ensure security and reliability. “We have deployed robust cybersecurity measures to protect applicant data and ensure the integrity of the approval process,” Oki said.
Impact on Real Estate and Construction
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that it will significantly ease the burden on developers and homeowners. The Lagos State Government expects the online system to increase the number of approved building plans by 30% in the first year. This is expected to boost formal construction activities and improve urban planning compliance.
The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Development Plan 2052, which aims to make Lagos a smart city. Similar e-governance reforms have been implemented in other sectors, including land registration and tax payments.
