Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged Nigerians to pray for former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose following recent political accusations. Fayose alleged that the Oyo State government orchestrated the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomosho to embarrass President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose's Allegations
Speaking on a televised programme on June 1, Fayose claimed the abduction was politically motivated. He questioned the Oyo government's response, suggesting that Governor Makinde prioritized political activities over security. Fayose stated, 'In Oyo State, I strongly believe, though I might be wrong, this might be orchestrated.' He added that the governor did not take immediate action after the incident.
Makinde's Response
Reacting through a statement by Information Commissioner Dotun Oyelade on June 2, Governor Makinde expressed shock at Fayose's comments. Oyelade described the allegations as false and noted that Makinde is focused on resolving the kidnapping. He said, 'For a former governor to be consumed by vindictiveness and hate, further endangering lives, shows one who has lost his mind.'
Political Reactions
The Oyo State APC criticized Makinde's handling of security, calling for his resignation. However, President Tinubu has publicly commended Makinde's efforts. The governor continues to work day and night to secure the release of the abducted victims.
Makinde urged Nigerians not to be angry with Fayose but to pray for him, emphasizing that the priority remains the safe return of the children and teachers.
