Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has officially declared that the Monday sit-at-home order across the Southeast is over. The declaration came on Monday, August 3, 2026, after the governor experienced heavy traffic in Onitsha, a major commercial hub in the state.
Governor Soludo's Traffic Experience Signals Normalcy
Soludo revealed he was stuck in traffic for 15 minutes in Onitsha, a situation he described as a clear indication that residents have resumed their normal economic activities. The sit-at-home, which was declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to push for the actualization of Biafra and the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had previously crippled economic activities across the region every Monday.
Speaking at an event in Delta State, Soludo explained: “I’m sorry I came in about 15 minutes late because I was stuck in traffic at Onitsha. Today is a Monday, and to have traffic at Onitsha on a Monday, the Monday sit-at-home is over.”

The Monday sit-at-home had a significant negative impact on businesses, transportation, and daily life in the Southeast. Markets were shut, schools were closed, and movement was restricted, leading to economic losses estimated in billions of naira. In a demonstration of commitment to regional unity, Soludo revealed that he postponed his executive council meeting to accommodate the event in Delta State. “I had to move my executive council meeting today to tomorrow or next because this is very important and I’m very delighted to be here,” he said.
