Emir Sanusi Applauds Kano's 30% Education Budget Allocation, Advocates for Girl-Child Schooling
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Dr Muhammadu Sanusi II, has publicly commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his administration's decision to allocate 30 per cent of Kano State's 2026 budget to the education sector. Sanusi described this substantial financial commitment as a clear and powerful demonstration of the government's dedication to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
Emphasizing the Critical Need for Girl-Child Education in the North
During his remarks, the Emir also placed a strong emphasis on the importance of girl-child education in Northern Nigeria. He issued a heartfelt appeal to parents and husbands, urging them not to hinder women and girls from accessing quality educational opportunities. Sanusi stressed that empowering females through education is essential for the region's overall development and progress.
Sanusi's Personal Educational Journey and Philosophical Stance
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria made these statements on Sunday while paying the traditional Sallah homage, known as Hawan Nassarawa, to the Government House in Kano. This visit was part of the activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. The Emir expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him by the state government during the event.
Furthermore, Sanusi took the opportunity to explain his personal decision to return to academic studies, currently pursuing a law degree at Northwest University in Kano. He clarified that his motivation is not related to any court matters but is instead intended to inspire others in similar positions of influence to continuously seek knowledge.
"Education comes before kingship," Sanusi asserted. "A king who acquires education attains greater dignity, but a king without education is entirely a worthless king." This powerful statement underscores his belief in the foundational role of education for effective leadership.
Governor Yusuf's Call for Peace and Development
In his response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, urged all residents to embrace peaceful coexistence for the overall development of the state. He emphasized that this harmony should transcend political or religious differences.
"As we celebrate, I call on all citizens to avoid actions that could threaten the peace and stability of our dear state," the governor stated. "Let us uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence regardless of our differences."
Governor Yusuf also reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to human development and the wellbeing of all citizens. He specifically called on parents and guardians to guide their children and youths to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the Sallah celebrations.
The governor provided assurances that the government remains dedicated to the protection of lives and property across Kano State, reinforcing the administration's focus on security and public safety.
