Tinubu Transforms Policing Through Education, Says Alausa

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains dedicated to repositioning and transforming the Nigerian Police through the education sector. This will be achieved by ensuring the upgrade of the police academy and other police institutions across the country.

Meeting with Police Leadership

Alausa made this known yesterday in his office during a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, along with his immediate predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, and other senior police officers. The meeting focused on establishing a southern campus of the police academy.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the minister emphasized that the police are making significant contributions to the nation and deserve encouragement to perform and succeed optimally.

Focus on New Campus

The discussions centered on the immediate infrastructure design and physical planning of the new police academy campus in Erije, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital. The minister directed the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) to expedite resource verification, noting that the President wants the campus to commence operations and admit its first batch of students between November and September 2026.

Upgrading Police Colleges

The capacity of over 42 police colleges nationwide was also discussed, with the intention of converting them into monotechnics. The minister announced the formation of three committees to oversee the process.

Speaking at the meeting, IGP Disu highlighted that education is key to solving problems in all sectors, including the police. He expressed the Force's determination to introduce courses that would directly impact personnel and enhance national security.
