UAE names four categories of foreigners eligible for entry permit

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has officially named four categories of foreigners who qualify for an entry permit into the country. The announcement, published on the UAE government's official website, provides a clear framework for foreign nationals seeking authorised entry into the Gulf nation.

Four groups eligible for UAE entry permits

According to the UAE government, entry permits are granted only to the following categories:

  • Holders of diplomatic cards
  • International organisations
  • Private organisations
  • Consular organisations

The official statement on the UAE website reads: "Permits are granted only to the following categories: holders of diplomatic cards, international, private and consular organizations, and employees sponsored by the mission."

This means that individuals outside these defined categories do not qualify for the permit under current UAE regulations. The inclusion of employees sponsored by a recognised mission expands the scope slightly beyond institutional bodies, covering individual workers tied to qualifying diplomatic or organisational entities.

What the policy means for foreign nationals

Private organisations are also listed alongside intergovernmental and consular bodies, suggesting that certain registered non-governmental entities may also be eligible. Foreign nationals who do not fall within any of these four categories would need to explore alternative entry routes, as the permit system is explicitly restricted to the groups listed in the government's official guidance.

UAE lists work permits available to foreigners

Meanwhile, Legit.ng recently reported that the UAE government had released a complete list of 13 work permits available to foreign workers in the country. The categories cover different employment situations, including freelance work, part-time jobs, student training, private teaching, and permits for Golden Visa holders.
