UAE Passport Validity: 10 Years for Adults, 5 for Minors

The United Arab Emirates government has officially outlined the validity periods and renewal procedures for Emirati passports, as announced on its official portal. The guidelines apply to all citizens, whether residing in the UAE or abroad, and are designed to streamline travel document management.

Validity Periods Based on Age

According to the UAE government's official platform, the validity of an Emirati passport is strictly determined by the holder's age at the time of issuance. Citizens aged 21 years and above receive a passport valid for 10 years from the date of issuance, or until all passport pages are fully used, whichever occurs first. For citizens under 21 years of age, the passport is valid for 5 years. The government also confirmed that passport holders can renew their documents up to six months before the actual expiry date, ensuring uninterrupted travel capabilities.

Remote Renewal for Citizens Abroad

To accommodate Emirati citizens living, studying, or traveling outside the country, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) has enabled digital renewal services. Citizens whose passports expire, get damaged, or are lost while abroad can submit a renewal request through the UAEICP smart application or other digital channels. During the application process, they can designate the nearest UAE embassy or consulate in their country of residence as the secure delivery location for the renewed passport. This remote service eliminates the need for in-person visits and expedites the renewal process.

Global Ranking and Travel Access

According to Arton Capital's Passport Index, the Emirati passport holds the top position globally, granting holders easy access to 179 destinations worldwide. This includes visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival, or e-visa facilities across multiple continents. The ranking reflects the UAE's strong diplomatic relations and its commitment to enhancing the mobility of its citizens. The passport's power continues to be a key advantage for Emirati travelers, whether for business, tourism, or education.

Additional Citizenship Guidelines

In a related development, the UAE government has also outlined specific categories of foreigners eligible for Emirati nationality, including investors, doctors, and artists. Eligible candidates must fulfill three key conditions during the citizenship application process before approval can be granted. This initiative aims to attract skilled professionals and capital to the UAE, further strengthening its global standing.
