According to the official UK government portal, applicants can bypass the usual waiting period by choosing either the 1-Day Premium Service or the 1-Week Fast Track Service. Each option has specific eligibility requirements and costs.
1-Day Premium Service: Same-Day Collection
The fastest option, the 1-Day Premium service, enables applicants to collect their new passport just four hours after their appointment. To use this service, applicants must book an appointment at a passport office online, with the earliest available slot being two days after the online application. They must bring their old passport to the appointment.
This service is only available for renewing an adult passport that was issued after December 31, 2001. The cost is £239.50 for a standard 34-page passport or £253.50 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport.
1-Week Fast Track Service: Broader Eligibility
The 1-Week Fast Track service offers a slightly longer turnaround but covers more scenarios. It is suitable for families and individuals with lost, stolen, or damaged documents. Applicants can book an appointment as early as the day after submitting the online application. Their new passport will be delivered to their home address by courier one week after the appointment.
Eligibility includes renewing an adult or child passport, replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged passport, changing personal details such as name, gender, or place of birth, and applying for a child's first passport. Costs vary: adult passports are £192 (standard) or £206 (54-page), while child passports are £156.50 (standard) or £170.50 (54-page).
Standard Processing Time Also Published
In addition to the fast-track options, the UK government has published official guidance on standard passport processing times. Applicants using the standard service can expect a specific turnaround, though delays may occur under certain circumstances.
