The Federal High Court in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has adjourned the hearing of a lawsuit challenging the results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for the Zamfara North senatorial district to June 25, 2026.
The suit was filed by Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, an aggrieved aspirant who contested the primary election. Shinkafi alleged irregularities in the conduct of the primary and named the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, the party's candidate for Zamfara North, as defendants.
According to reports, when the matter was called for hearing on Tuesday, June 9, the court could not proceed due to the absence of INEC and the APC, who are the defendants in the case. The judge subsequently adjourned the case to allow all parties to appear.
The primary election, which produced Kaura as the APC candidate, has been a subject of contention among party members in Zamfara North. Shinkafi, who lost the primary, is seeking the court's intervention to nullify the results and order a fresh primary.
The adjournment gives the defendants time to prepare their responses. The case is expected to be heard on the new date, with all parties required to be present.
