Edo Community Seeks Fresh Probe into Land Disputes Involving Abuja Lawyer
Edo Community Demands New Land Dispute Investigation

The Illushi/Uroh community in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State has called for a renewed and comprehensive investigation into long-standing land disputes and complaints involving Abuja-based lawyer, Victor Giwa.

Community Breaks Silence in Lagos

This urgent appeal was made public during a press briefing held in Lagos by Evangelist Chris Okeh, the former President of the Illushi Progressive Association of Nigeria (IPAN). Okeh revealed that the community has, for several years, submitted numerous petitions to the relevant authorities concerning land disputes in the area and specific concerns linked to Barr. Giwa.

While acknowledging that the Inspector-General of Police had made some progress on earlier petitions, Okeh emphasized that significant aspects of the investigations remain unresolved. He stated that the community felt compelled to speak out following recent public statements by Giwa, which have reignited anxiety among complainants spread across Abuja, Lagos, and Edo State.

"We cannot remain silent while narratives that may mislead the public continue to circulate," Okeh declared. "Our interest is in ensuring peace, due process, and accountability."

Nationwide Petitions Highlight a Pattern

Okeh brought attention to specific citizens who have lodged formal petitions in different parts of the country. These individuals include Ms. Asabe Waziri in Abuja, whose case is currently before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Ms. Ibeto Uche in Lagos, and several other members of the Illushi/Uroh community.

"These petitions contain claims relating to land disputes, intimidation, and alleged misuse of legal or security processes," he explained. The community's position is not to make definitive accusations but to demand clarity through a transparent investigation.

"Every honest Nigerian should ask whether it is coincidence or a pattern that people from multiple states have raised similar concerns," Okeh posed. "Only a thorough investigation can provide answers."

Appeal for Impartial Review and Cooperation

The community has formally appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff to order an impartial review of all outstanding petitions. This includes addressing any concerns regarding the potential involvement of security personnel in local community matters.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Prince Ibechile C.G. Mordi reaffirmed their full readiness to cooperate with investigators. "We have documents, witnesses, and materials to support our petitions and will present them whenever called upon," he assured.

Despite raising these serious concerns, the community commended the ongoing efforts of law-enforcement authorities and the judiciary. They noted that these efforts reassure ordinary citizens that no individual is beyond scrutiny. The Illushi/Uroh community ultimately urges peaceful engagement and a transparent resolution of all outstanding issues affecting their area.
