The Nasarawa State government has taken decisive action to rescue a 21-year-old orphan and her younger siblings from a heartbreaking forced eviction that had sparked public outrage across the state.
The Heartbreaking Eviction Story
Blessing Mathias, an orphan who lost both parents, became the face of this emotional case when her tearful video went viral on Facebook. In the emotional footage, she described how she and her sisters were forcibly thrown out of their late father's home after their uncle, Williams Hosea, allegedly sold the property without their knowledge or consent.
The buyer, Michael Galadima, claimed he purchased the house for N5 million and asserted he had legal authorization for the transaction. However, the distressing images of the homeless young women touched hearts across Nigeria and prompted immediate government intervention.
Government Steps In for Justice
Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaac Danladi, could not ignore the public outcry. He promptly summoned all parties involved to Justice House in Lafia, the state capital, for emergency discussions.
Danladi emphasized that the state government has a responsibility to protect vulnerable citizens, especially minors and those who cannot defend themselves. "We cannot stand idly while vulnerable children face trauma and humiliation," he stated during the mediation session.
Despite the matter already being in court, the Attorney General initiated an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process, noting that even after court rulings, the state has a duty to pursue peaceful resolutions and prevent hostilities.
Path Toward Resolution
The mediation session saw significant participation from senior justice officials, including Permanent Secretary Mohammed Adi and Director of Public Defender Department Hajiya Halima Hudu Abubakar, who coordinated the discussions.
The orphans - Blessing, Dorothy, and Decor Tinyang - were represented by their counsel, Dr. Nze Okoye, while Emmanuel Kuza represented the judgment creditor, Michael Galadima.
Following extensive dialogue, Galadima expressed willingness to relinquish the property if the family repays the N5 million purchase price plus an additional N6.5 million he claims to have spent on property improvements.
Both parties agreed to reconvene on November 21, 2025, for what officials hope will be the final peace meeting. Representatives from the Kuteb community attended in solidarity with the orphans and expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his compassionate response.
The Ministry of Justice is now reviewing all relevant documents, including sale agreements and payment evidence, to guide the matter toward a fair and humane resolution that protects the rights of the vulnerable young women.
