Yobe Hisbah Enforces Strict Ban on Mixed-Gender Interactions and Night Gatherings

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has issued a sweeping directive to prohibit all male-female interactions, night gatherings, and public events across the state. This announcement was made by the Executive Chairman of the commission, Dr Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, in a formal statement released on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

According to Dr Abubakar, the ban takes immediate effect and is driven by a combination of security concerns and the imperative to uphold Islamic moral values. He emphasized that these measures are essential to maintain public order and align with the principles of Shari'a law as enforced in Yobe State.

Activities Deemed Inconsistent with Islamic Teachings

In his statement, Dr Abubakar specifically identified inappropriate male-female interactions, reckless driving, and night gatherings as activities that are "inconsistent with Islamic moral teachings and contrary to the laws guiding Yobe State." The commission has explicitly suspended all Sallah-related events and public gatherings that are found to contradict these religious guidelines.

The directive extends to owners and operators of event centres, who are mandated to comply strictly or face potential sanctions. Dr Abubakar urged community leaders, parents, youth groups, and other stakeholders to actively support the ban and ensure widespread compliance within their respective communities.

Reinforcement of Ongoing Moral Enforcement Mandate

The Hisbah Commission reiterated that these regulations are part of its continuous mandate to enforce morality and lawful conduct under Shari'a law in Yobe State. The statement concluded with a firm reminder that all public gatherings conflicting with Islamic teachings and state laws are now strictly prohibited.

This move underscores the commission's commitment to regulating social behavior during the Sallah period, aiming to foster a secure and morally upright environment in line with Islamic principles.
