Lawan Issues Eid Warning to Nigerians

Former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has called for a national rebirth anchored on sacrifice, unity, and empathy, urging Nigerians to embrace the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Kabir while rejecting tribal divisions.

Eid Message and Call for Sacrifice

In a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Lawan extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah in Yobe North, across Nigeria, and globally. He described the festival as a divine reminder of faith, obedience, and selflessness.

Lawan emphasized that the story of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice what he held most dear remains a timeless lesson for nation-building. He stressed that Nigeria's progress depends on personal sacrifice and commitment to the collective good.

“In the sublime act of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to offer his dearest possession, we find the eternal metaphor for our national journey. It teaches us that the path to a greater collective destiny is paved with the stones of personal sacrifice, faith, and submission to the will of the Almighty,” the statement read.

Leadership and National Interest

Lawan urged leaders in positions of authority to prioritize national interest over personal gain. He noted that sustainable peace and development can only be achieved when individuals are willing to make sacrifices for the country.

He also called on Nigerians to uphold compassion and patience, drawing inspiration from the resilience of historical Islamic figures such as Hajar and Prophet Ibrahim. He encouraged citizens to remain committed to prayers for national leadership.

Support for President Tinubu

The former Senate President particularly urged citizens to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders. He expressed optimism that Nigeria is on the path to renewal and prosperity.

“Let us remain resolute in our prayers for our President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, our leaders and institutions, trusting that through steadfastness, our season of bountiful rain and rejuvenation is near,” he added.

Unity Against Tribal Divisions

Lawan further emphasized the need for unity and warned against tribal sentiments. He described national cohesion as essential for stability and progress.

The message concluded with a call for renewed faith, sacrifice, and collective responsibility as Nigerians celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
