Obi Cubana Endorses Tinubu's Re-election Through City Boy Movement

Prominent businessman and socialite Obi Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has once again publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu's re-election campaign. This endorsement came during a recent high-profile meeting with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, where Cubana detailed the core objectives of the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement.

Movement's Primary Goal: Igbo Progress Through Federal Alignment

Obi Cubana, who serves as the southeast zonal coordinator for the City Boy Movement, emphasized that the group's main purpose revolves around advancing the progress of Igbo land. He explained that this advancement would be achieved through strategic federal alignment and comprehensive education of southeastern citizens about the benefits of supporting President Tinubu's re-election bid.

"We stand on Bola Tinubu's mandate," Cubana declared in a video from the meeting. "The City Boy Movement is not a political party. It is primarily designed for the re-election bid of Mr. President. The unique thing is that it's about young people, mostly businessmen, not mostly politicians, but people who want the betterment of Igbo land. Our people lack knowledge, and it is our responsibility to educate them. We stand solidly behind Tinubu."

Meeting with Enugu Governor and Social Media Reactions

Following the meeting, Obi Cubana shared photographs from his interaction with Governor Peter Mbah on his Instagram account on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. In his caption, he expressed gratitude for the warm reception, writing: "Your Excellency, the digital Governor of Enugu State Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah... thanks for the wonderful reception and massive support today! Enugu State is a model!!! Peter Mbah is a certified City Boy."

The businessman's comments and the meeting have sparked diverse reactions across social media platforms. While some supporters have praised Cubana's strategic approach to building bridges with political power, others have criticized both him and other City Boy Movement members.

Mixed Public Responses to Political Endorsement

One supporter, identified as Mbhwandies, commented: "On his mandate we shall stand till 2031!!! When last did Nigeria have a pro-active president like PBAT? When? A president that listens and interacts with the people, especially the youths. I'm a proud city girl."

Another user named Olorofo added: "If you listen to what Obi Cubana said, you will believe in the movement and join the movement, especially for the Igbo people. You can't always play divisive politics and expect to win or get something good out of the government."

However, not all responses were supportive. Everypolitics1 questioned: "When Cubana speaks, is he truly speaking for the ordinary Igbo people, or is he speaking for the interests of the wealthy elites?" Meanwhile, Blaqboy_kharly expressed skepticism: "A wealthy man telling poor people who to vote for... A government driving people into poverty... How does this even work, because no individual can influence me into who to vote for, except the candidate himself."

Family Political Ambitions Surface

In related political developments, Obi Cubana's younger brother, Ikenna Iyiegbu, has announced his intention to contest in the 2027 general elections. Known as Ike Cubana, he plans to run for a seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). His target constituency is Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, and he has already circulated promotional materials featuring his photograph and campaign details.

The City Boy Movement continues to position itself as a significant force in southeast politics, with its focus on youth engagement, business community involvement, and strategic political alignment ahead of the crucial 2027 elections.
