Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has positioned himself as the second most vilified political figure in Nigeria, trailing only President Bola Tinubu.
A Declaration at a Rivers State Gathering
Wike made this striking assertion on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He was speaking to stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ochigba, located within the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The occasion was an end-of-year thanksgiving service hosted by Chibudom Nwuche, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The event took place in Nwuche's hometown of Ochigba.
The Root of the Criticism
According to Wike, the barrage of criticism directed at him stems from his unwavering stance on honoring political agreements. He emphasized that these pacts are crucial for ensuring his supporters are properly integrated and recognized.
"After Tinubu, the next most abused politician today is me," Wike stated plainly. He then posed and answered the central question: "Why are they abusing me? Because they know that agreement is agreement."
He elaborated on his philosophy, insisting that once a decision is made, it must be executed. "When we have agreed on something, let's implement it. If we can't implement it, don't even come for it," he declared, underscoring his no-nonsense approach to political dealings.
Reaffirming Support for the President
Wike used the platform to stress the importance of respecting long-standing political accords. He pointedly reaffirmed his and his group's continued support for President Bola Tinubu, linking this support to a prior collective decision.
"So for us, long before now we have agreed that we must make sure that we will continue to support Tinubu. That is the position you took and that is the position we are going to still take," he told the assembled PDP stakeholders. This statement highlights the complex political alignments in the country, where a prominent PDP figure openly pledges allegiance to the sitting president from a different party.
