APC Alleges Eviction Threat in Abia Over Office Space

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State has raised alarm over an alleged threat by the council mayor, Nnadozie Nwogwugwu, to evict Renewed Hope Partners from their office. The party claims the move is politically motivated and aimed at taking over the property for use by the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

APC Chairman Speaks Out

Chika Uhuaba, the APC chairman in Isiala Ngwa South, told journalists on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, that the office space was duly rented and fully paid for by Renewed Hope Partners. However, after hosting a senatorial aspirant for Abia Central during a consultation visit, the mayor began pressuring the landlord to evict them. Uhuaba alleged that the landlord was threatened with property revocation if he refused to comply.

Uhuaba expressed surprise at what he described as an inconsistency in Governor Alex Otti's political alignment. He noted that the state government had declared support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election, yet was allegedly persecuting partners working for the same cause. He called on Governor Otti to intervene and caution the mayor, stressing that such actions undermine democratic principles.

Call for Intervention

The APC chieftain urged the governor to call the council mayor to order, emphasizing that the alleged eviction threat is anti-democratic. He questioned why a government that claims to support the President's re-election would move against those pursuing the same agenda.

This development comes amid growing political tensions in Abia State as parties prepare for the 2027 elections. Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu had encouraged Governor Otti to join the APC, describing him as "one of us."
