Abia 2027: APC Releases Full List of Governorship, Senate, Reps Candidates

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced its candidates for the 2027 general elections, with Chief Eric Opah emerging as the party's governorship flagbearer. The announcement was made following a series of primary elections conducted across the state.

Governorship Primary Results

Chief Eric Opah secured the APC governorship ticket after polling 125,977 votes in the primary held on Thursday, May 21, 2026. His closest rival, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, managed 5,905 votes. The party's publicity secretary in Abia, Uche Aguoru, confirmed the results in a statement, noting that the primary was conducted across all 184 wards in the state.

Aguoru expressed confidence in Opah's ability to lead the party to victory in 2027, stating: "We are confident that Chief Eric Opah possesses the leadership capacity, vision, and experience required to lead our party to victory in the 2027 general elections and return the Government House to Umuahia under the banner of the APC."

Opah to Face Incumbent Governor Alex Otti

With this victory, Opah is set to challenge incumbent Governor Alex Otti, who is seeking re-election, along with other candidates in the upcoming polls. The APC believes Opah's emergence will strengthen its chances in the election.

National Assembly Primary Results

The APC also released the results of its primary elections for the House of Representatives and Senate, which were held on May 16 and May 18, 2026, respectively. The results were announced by returning officers led by Erasmus Cishark.

  • Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency: Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji
  • Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency: Rt. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha
  • Bende Federal Constituency: Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu
  • Ohafia/Arochukwu Federal Constituency: Mr. Ikenna Ukwa

Senatorial Winners

  • Abia North Senatorial District: H.E. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu
  • Abia Central Senatorial District: Hon. Emeka Atuma
  • Abia South Senatorial District: Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr.

The party commended all aspirants, party faithful, and stakeholders for their commitment to a peaceful and transparent primary process. Aguoru added: "We urge all members and supporters to remain united and committed as we collectively work towards delivering purposeful leadership for the people of Abia State."
