The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced the zoning of its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to Abia Central Senatorial District. The decision, aimed at promoting equity, justice, and fair representation, was disclosed in a statement by the party's state spokesperson, Uche Aguoru, on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
APC's Zoning Decision
According to the party, the zoning is intended to guide members and aspirants ahead of the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms. The APC recently extended the deadline for the purchase and submission of these forms to midnight on Monday, May 4, 2026. The party emphasized that the move aligns with the informal power rotation arrangement that has been in place in Abia State since the return of democracy in 1999, which rotates the governorship among Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South to promote unity and inclusiveness.
Equity and Fair Play
The statement noted that the current APC state chairman hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state. Therefore, the party deemed it just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform. The APC appealed to aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect this decision in the spirit of sportsmanship and party unity.
The party also urged all members to remain committed to working together toward securing victory in the 2027 governorship election. This zoning decision is expected to shape the political landscape in Abia State as the election approaches.
