The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by National Chairman Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State. The party described the victory as well-deserved and a reflection of the sovereign will of the people, according to a statement by Gombe.
ADC Commends INEC, Attributes Victory to Democratic Values
In the statement, the ADC praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its diligence and commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible election. Gombe noted that the transparent conduct of the exercise demonstrated INEC's independence and its role as an impartial electoral umpire.
The party also congratulated the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights, stating that the victory reinforces democratic values and deepens constitutional governance in Nigeria.
Party Blames Poor Performance on Candidate Imposition
However, the ADC faction clarified that its poor performance in the election was a direct consequence of the imposition of a candidate by members of a coalition group operating under the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC). Gombe stated that the presentation of an unpopular candidate alienated the electorate and undermined the party's prospects.
The party reassured Nigerians that the ADC under its leadership is fully repositioned, pledging to mobilize effectively and present credible and formidable candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Pledge to Strengthen Democracy
The ADC concluded by pledging to continue working towards strengthening democracy and constitutional governance in Nigeria. Gombe ended the statement with a blessing for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the African Democratic Congress.
