ADC Names Imoke, Abdulfatah Ahmed to Lead Presidential Primaries

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State to head key committees for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party announced that Imoke will serve as Chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee, while Ahmed will head the Presidential Election Committee as the ADC intensifies preparations for its presidential selection process.

The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the move was part of efforts to guarantee transparency, credibility and fairness in the conduct of the primaries. According to the statement, the Presidential Screening Committee chaired by Imoke will have Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum as secretary, while other members include Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Hon. Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Prof. David Salifu and Col. Abubakar Ali Ciroma.

Similarly, the Presidential Election Committee headed by Abdulfatah Ahmed will have Prof. Yisa Gana as secretary. Other members of the committee include Maj.-Gen. Adamu Jalingo, Dr. Auwalu Anwar, Chief Emenike Ikechi, Dr. Macaulay Iyare, Tajudeen Bakare, Elder Ubolo Itodo Okpanachi, Zainab Buba Galadima, Uzoamaka Onyeama and Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris.

The ADC also constituted a Presidential Appeals Committee chaired by Suleiman Usman, with Barr. Ken Imasuagbon serving as secretary and Barr. Dare Okerade as member. For the governorship primaries, the party approved two separate screening panels. The first governorship screening committee will be chaired by S.E. Aruwa, SAN, with Femi Olawuyi serving as secretary. Other members include Lauretta Onochie, Chief Vivian Ugochukwu, Akilu Indabawa, Ibrahim Mohammed Wali and Prof. Rabiu Bello.

The second panel will be headed by Barr. Justina Abanida, while Hon. Chille Igbawua will serve as secretary. Members include Gerrard Irona, Sen. Yisa Braimoh, Hassan Mohammed Ibrahim, Joseph Ephraim Enemali and Navy Capt. Aliyu Ngolmo. The party also approved two Governorship Appeal Committees to address disputes and petitions arising from the screening and primary processes.

According to the ADC, the committees were carefully selected to strengthen confidence in the party’s internal democratic process and ensure a transparent exercise. “The committees were carefully constituted to ensure transparency, credibility, fairness and internal democracy throughout the conduct of the party’s primaries,” the statement said.
