Presidential campaign posters of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Transportation, have flooded major parts of Bauchi metropolis ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi's Political Journey
Amaechi, who submitted his presidential nomination form on Thursday, previously contested for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022 but lost to President Bola Tinubu. The former Governor of Rivers State is now set to challenge former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the ADC ticket this year.
Posters Appear Across Bauchi
The 'Amaechi for President' posters have been sighted at strategic locations, including roundabouts, electrical poles, and signboards along major streets within the state capital. Key areas include Ahmadu Bello Way, Awalah roundabout, Wunti Flyover, Jos Road roundabout, Bauchi Club, Nasarawa Gate, Emir's Palace roundabout, Railway Road, Sabon Titin Karofi, and Kofar Dumi street.
Slogan and Strategy
With his 'Move Nigeria Forward' slogan, Amaechi faces the challenge of winning over the northern electorate, which is considered Atiku's stronghold. However, Amaechi holds the traditional title of Dan Amanan Kasar Hausa of Daura, which may help his appeal in the region.
Residents' Reactions
Residents of Bauchi who reacted to the posters described Amaechi as a loyal Nigerian who served diligently during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ibrahim Jafar, a resident, said, 'He associates himself with the North even more than his region. He cited Nigeria's first University of Transportation to the North over his state. Those who are contesting with him that are even our own from the North have not done such. He can be trusted.'
Background
Amaechi served as Minister of Transportation under President Buhari and is known for his infrastructural achievements. His campaign posters signal an early start to his presidential bid, aiming to build momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
