APC Caucus in Bauchi State Opposes Governor Bala Mohammed's Admission to Party
A caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has strongly opposed the alleged plan by the party's national leadership to admit Governor Bala Mohammed. The group raised concerns that his admission could be detrimental to the party's cohesion and electoral success.
Criticisms of Governor Mohammed's Past Statements
The caucus highlighted Governor Mohammed's past comments on the policies of the Bola Tinubu administration, stating that his criticisms have fostered division and acrimony in governance. They expressed worry that he has consistently engaged in public attacks against President Tinubu and the APC, with statements perceived to undermine the party's unity and integrity.
Senator Sama'ila Dahuwa, representing Bauchi North and chairing the meeting, announced the resolution after exhaustive deliberations held in Abuja on Tuesday night. He emphasized that the caucus unequivocally rejects the move to admit Mohammed into the APC.
Lack of Reconciliation and Apology
The caucus noted that, to their knowledge, Governor Mohammed has neither retracted his critical statements nor made formal efforts at reconciliation with the party's leadership and members. They pointed out that he has offered no public apology, which they view as a significant barrier to his admission.
In their statement, the caucus declared, "In view of the foregoing, the Caucus firmly holds that his admission into APC at this time will be detrimental to the party, cohesion, credibility and electoral prospects in Bauchi State."
Concerns Over Party Stability and Internal Democracy
Further, the caucus condemned the failure to consult critical stakeholders within the Bauchi APC on such a politically important matter. They described this omission as inconsistent with internal democracy and inclusiveness, vowing not to support any move that could compromise the party's stability and fortunes.
The caucus plans to formally communicate its position to the party's national leadership, demanding strict adherence to due process and established structures to ensure transparency and fairness.
Background on Senator Sama'ila Dahuwa
Senator Sama'ila Dahuwa, who led the caucus meeting, was previously an appointee of Governor Bala Mohammed, serving as commissioner for health. He resigned from that position to contest the Bauchi North seat during the 2023 election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Dahuwa defected to the APC early last year, citing internal crises within the PDP, which adds a layer of political complexity to the current opposition against Mohammed's admission.
