APC Screening 24 Assembly Aspirants in Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly Screening Committee for Enugu State commenced the screening of 24 aspirants shortlisted by the party for the state constituency seats on Monday.

Committee Chairman Commends Consensus-Building

Chairman of the Committee, Lucky Porki, addressed a press briefing at the state secretariat of the party in Enugu, stating that the exercise would be conducted in line with the constitutions of the country, the party, and electoral guidelines. He praised what he described as an exemplary display of consensus-building aimed at ensuring peace and party loyalty in the state, noting that this approach had simplified the committee's task.

"Indeed, we recommend the Enugu State formula to other state chapters of our party as a virtue worthy of emulation. This has made our job easier because we will deal with 24 aspirants only," he said.

Only 24 Aspirants Indicated Interest

Porki explained that the committee was established by the party's National Secretariat after the deadline for submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms had passed. He confirmed that only 24 aspirants expressed interest for the 24 State Constituency seats.

"Nevertheless, we will thoroughly screen them – their records and credentials – to ensure that they are qualified to serve the people of Enugu State in the capacity that they aspire to. Although only 24 aspirants indicated interest by submitting their forms, the due process for the election of candidates will still be strictly applied in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, and our party's Constitution and Guidelines," he stated.

Appeals Committee to Address Grievances

Porki, accompanied by other committee members, announced that after the screening, the Appeals Committee would handle any grievances or petitions arising from the process. He expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for his governance, which he said had elevated Enugu's infrastructure and ensured peace in the state. He attributed the party's growing acceptance in the state to the governor's achievements.

State Chairman Reaffirms Support

Receiving the committee members, State Chairman of the party, Martin Chukwunwike, noted that Governor Mbah's leadership style had made things easier for the party in Enugu. He assured continued support for President Bola Tinubu's second term, emphasizing that Enugu State had embraced his renewed hope agenda as the best path for the country.
