APC Vows Justice for Plateau Killings, Commends Tinubu's Empathetic Visit
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a strong condemnation of the recent killings in Plateau State, firmly pledging that those responsible will be identified and brought to justice. Yilwatda made this declaration while commending the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau State, where the President met with victims and stakeholders following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area.
Demonstration of Empathy and Leadership
Describing the President's visit as a clear demonstration of empathy and responsive leadership, the APC chairman emphasized that this gesture reflects national solidarity with grieving communities. He stressed, however, that beyond sympathy, decisive and sustained action must be taken to end the cycle of violence in the state. Yilwatda condemned the killings as "inhuman, cowardly, and reprehensible," warning that the continued loss of innocent lives has become a national tragedy that can no longer be met with routine condemnation.
Call for Vigilance and Proactive Measures
He called on community leaders across Plateau to be more vigilant and proactive, noting that the pattern of attacks suggests that perpetrators may be operating within or around affected communities. According to him, such elements must no longer be shielded by silence or fear but should be exposed and handed over to authorities. The APC chairman also urged security agencies to overhaul their strategies, advocating for the deployment of modern, intelligence-driven tools such as surveillance systems, drones, and real-time tracking technologies to combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
Economic Consequences and Collective Response
Yilwatda further warned of the economic consequences of persistent insecurity, noting that Plateau's tourism and agricultural potential remain under threat. He emphasized that no society can prosper under constant fear and instability, adding that the state risks long-term setbacks if the violence is not decisively addressed. Calling for a collective response, he urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, and civil society groups to work together to restore peace and stability.
President Tinubu's Visit and Federal Commitment
During the visit, President Tinubu, alongside Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other leaders, also met with families of victims, offering condolences and assurances of government support. The APC maintained that the President's visit goes beyond symbolism, signaling a renewed federal commitment to tackling insecurity in Plateau State and ensuring justice for victims. Reiterating its stance, the party declared that the lives of Plateau citizens are "sacred and non-negotiable," insisting that those behind the attacks must be apprehended and prosecuted without delay.
