Former Adamawa State governorship candidate Senator Aishatu Binani has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). This move comes nine months after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and after a brief stint with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Binani Cites Structured Governance as Key Reason
Speaking after receiving her NDC membership card on Friday, May 1, 2026, Binani explained her decision. She stated that after carefully studying the NDC's constitution, she observed a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance. She emphasized that this alignment was a major factor in her choice.
Political Base Facilitated the Transition
Binani disclosed that the initiative to join the NDC originated from her political base, which had already made significant inroads into the party before she formally joined. She noted that her supporters took the lead and urged her to make the switch, highlighting that their interests remain her foremost priority.
The former Adamawa Central senator expressed gratitude to her supporters for their continued loyalty and guidance. She stated that while they collectively decided to join the ADC about nine months ago, changing circumstances led them to seek a new political home in the NDC.
Binani's defection marks a notable shift in Adamawa State's political landscape. The NDC is expected to gain influence with the addition of a prominent politician who has a strong following in the region.
