Court Orders Deregistration of ADC and Four Parties

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties for allegedly failing to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.

Details of the Ruling

The suit was filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, which sought to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove ADC, Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) from the register of political parties.

The court ruled that the parties breached Section 225 of the Constitution, which outlines conditions for maintaining registration. INEC has been directed to effect the deregistration immediately.
