Celebrity businessman Cubana Chiefpriest has broken his silence following reports that he lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East federal constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a detailed statement, he clarified that he did not actively participate in the primary process and explained the hidden drama behind his decision to step aside.

Contrary to widespread reports that he lost the primary election to incumbent lawmaker Canice Moore Nwachukwu, Cubana Chiefpriest insisted that he never fully engaged in the contest. News had circulated online on Saturday, May 16, alleging that the socialite had been defeated. However, in a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday, May 17, he denied these claims, stating that his political ambition was discussed internally within the party leadership before the primary.
Consultation with Governor Uzodimma
Chiefpriest revealed that after consulting with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, he was informed about the party’s zoning arrangement for the federal constituency. The governor reportedly argued that it was not yet the turn of his local government area to occupy the seat. The party wanted the current lawmaker to complete another term before the position rotates to another local government area. Respecting this decision, Chiefpriest stayed away from the primary venue entirely.
He wrote: “Nobody will say they saw me anywhere around the primaries venue. Immediately the party’s decision was communicated to me in the early hours of Saturday before the primaries, I stayed away completely in respect of the leadership and the internal understanding reached.”
Addressing Rumors of Debt and Spending
Chiefpriest also dismissed rumors that he had spent heavily or incurred debts due to his political ambition. He emphasized that his desire to contest came purely from personal conviction and a passion to serve his people. He admitted that he felt the current representation was not meeting constituents' expectations, which motivated his interest in the race. Despite stepping aside, he expressed pride that his movement helped raise political awareness within the constituency.
He criticized individuals using his name for online conversations and “cruise,” stating, “It is only a big name that attracts attention.”
