Nigerian music superstar Davido has announced a temporary suspension of his music career to focus on political activities in Osun State. The singer declared that he will pause all shows and performances for 60 days to lead a massive grassroots movement supporting the re-election bid of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido Takes on Political Role
Davido made the announcement in Ede, Osun State, during the inauguration of a youth campaign committee established to boost Governor Adeleke's re-election efforts. The singer has been appointed chairman of the committee, placing him at the forefront of mobilizing young voters across the state.
Addressing supporters at the event, Davido explained that his decision was driven not just by family ties but by genuine belief in his uncle's leadership. He stated: "I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle. Not only because he is my uncle but because I believe in what he is doing and the work ahead."
Strategic Committee for House-to-House Mobilisation
Davido now heads a strategic committee tasked with a house-to-house mobilisation mission for the governor's re-election. The committee aims to engage residents directly, spreading the governor's message and securing support at the grassroots level.
Davido Hints at Family Business Return
Meanwhile, Davido hinted that the Adeleke family may shift focus back to their business empire if Governor Adeleke loses the August election. The singer's comments came amid online discussions about the potential outcome of the governor's political journey under the Accord Party.
An X user, Whemimor, speculated about a possible future musical endorsement, tweeting: "If e lose na Davido go compose song for APC during 2027 campaign." Reacting playfully, Davido suggested: "Or we can just go back to our multi-billion dollar company …"
Public Reactions to Davido's Announcement
Social media users have reacted to Davido's political move. Top fan Mgbebuhe Ukaegbu commented: "If he's done well he doesn't need a campaign." Ayedun Najeem remarked: "That's what makes Adeleke family different." Another user, Ojopagogo Adeyinka Oyekan, noted: "The recent appointment of Nigerian music icon Davido as Youth Campaign Chief for the Osun State Governor's re-election bid has been widely received with enthusiasm. This strategic move reflects a deep understanding of the pivotal role young people play in shaping the future of our democracy."
Adulf FARMS at Livestocks and CyberSec Consult added: "Well, let him support their family but Osun State might not waste another 4 years dancing." Ganiu Abiodun simply stated: "If e reach your turn too no support your family."
Davido Restates Loyalty to Uncle Adeleke
This development follows Governor Adeleke's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, announced at a ceremony in Osogbo on December 9. Davido publicly confirmed his loyalty to his uncle shortly after the declaration, solidifying his commitment to the political campaign.
