Davido Follows Uncle's Lead, Set to Join Accord Party in Osun
Davido to Collect Accord Party Membership Card in Osogbo

Award-winning music star David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has made a significant political announcement. The singer revealed he will travel to Osun State to officially become a member of the Accord Party, following in the footsteps of his uncle, the state's governor.

Davido's Announcement and Upcoming Visit

Davido shared the news with his millions of followers on Tuesday via his social media channels. He stated his intention to visit the Osun State Government House, also known as Imole House, located in Osogbo. "I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly," he wrote in the post, which also tagged Governor Ademola Adeleke.

This move comes just days after his uncle, Governor Adeleke, publicly formalized his own membership with the party. The governor's switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party has created a major shift in the state's political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.

Governor Adeleke's Political Realignment

The catalyst for this family political move was Governor Ademola Adeleke's official defection. He announced his resignation from the PDP on December 1, 2025, citing ongoing leadership crises at the national level of the party. The governor confirmed he had submitted his resignation letter to party officials in his local ward in Ede North Local Government Area back on November 4, 2025.

Governor Adeleke formally joined the Accord Party at a ceremony on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, held at the Banquet Hall of the Osun State Government House. National and state leaders of the party were present for the occasion. During the event, the governor declared his intention to seek re-election for a second term in office on the new platform.

"I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026," Adeleke explained. He emphasized that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.

The Rationale Behind the Move

Governor Adeleke outlined his reasons for choosing the Accord Party, stating that its core philosophy aligns with his administration's focus. He described the party as having a welfarist approach that matches his government's commitment to delivering democratic dividends and good governance to the people of Osun.

"Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The masses of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year," the governor asserted confidently. He positioned the party as the necessary platform for continuing the projects and policies his administration has begun.

The governor also called for unity, welcoming Accord Party leaders into the government house and stressing the need for a united front as election preparations begin. He highlighted the importance of inclusive leadership that considers the interests of all groups within the state.

Davido's initial reaction to his uncle's party resignation was a simple but telling repost of the announcement with the caption "Jeje…", a Nigerian slang term often meaning "take it easy" or "calmly", hinting at a measured and deliberate strategy behind these political maneuvers.

The singer's planned visit to Osogbo to collect his membership card now signals a more direct involvement in the political process, potentially leveraging his massive influence and popularity among Nigerian youth to bolster the Accord Party's appeal in Osun State and beyond.
