Desmond Elliot, the Nollywood actor turned politician and current representative of Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has declared his intention to seek a fourth term in office. The lawmaker made the announcement in the company of residents and supporters, stating that he is not yet done with the constituency that has given him everything.
Elliot, who holds a doctorate in legislative studies, emphasized his deep understanding of lawmaking. He said, "Surulere has blessed me. I have studied up to the doctorate level in legislative studies, which makes me well-grounded in lawmaking." He highlighted numerous interventions and projects facilitated through his ranking status within the assembly, noting that much has changed since his first election.
Achievements and Stakeholder Support
At a stakeholder event attended by former Surulere Local Government Area Chairman Tajudeen Ajide and other All Progressives Congress (APC) loyalists, Elliot listed his achievements. These include over 30 road infrastructure projects, healthcare provision, flood mitigation efforts, and energy interventions. His declaration has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Rukevwe Odjimogho questioned the emphasis on degrees over results, stating, "Having a doctorate in legislative studies and positively transforming the lives of your constituents are two different things. In Naija, there is so much emphasis on degrees more than results." Another commenter, DoB.BoD, suggested Elliot appeared pressured, saying, "You dey come out for your pocket! See your look, it says a lot, I see a lot of pressure and fear." Meanwhile, ABULE-EGBA MalcomX commended Elliot, noting his journey from being mocked to earning a doctorate and gaining 12 years of experience.
