El-Rufai's Son Leaves APC for ADC Ahead of 2027

Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The lawmaker, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, announced his defection in a statement on Thursday, May 6, after his resignation letter was read during plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Defection Announcement

In his statement, El-Rufai confirmed: “A few hours ago, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas GCON, announced my letter of resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and my formal move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at plenary.” He emphasized that his decision was not taken lightly and was guided by courage and commitment to public service.

Re-election Bid on ADC Platform

El-Rufai disclosed that he would seek re-election under the ADC platform, pledging continued representation for his constituents. “I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform,” he said.

Other Lawmakers Join ADC

The Kaduna lawmaker also revealed that two other politicians had joined him in the new political movement: Hon. Engr. Suleiman Richifa (Soba Constituency) and Hon. Umar Ajilo (Makarfi/Kudan). “Together, we are building a home for progressive, people-focused service,” he added.

Healthcare Initiative Unveiled

El-Rufai announced plans for a healthcare intervention targeting primary healthcare centres in Kaduna North. An ad hoc committee will oversee the initiative, which aims to provide medical supplies such as 1,000 syringes per PHC and other essential items. “By the grace of God, I will soon announce the ad hoc committee for the Primary Health Care initiative I unveiled last week,” he stated.

This defection comes amid other political shifts, including Senator Tony Nwoye’s resignation from ADC to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). El-Rufai’s move signals realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
