The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official portal, removing Ahmed Yayari and Daniel Woyengikuro as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s National Treasurer and National Financial Secretary, respectively.
New Appointments Align with Wike Faction
The electoral body replaced the duo with Odeyemi Mackson Oladiran and Eyim Donatus Henry. This move effectively aligns the party's leadership structure on the INEC portal with the faction backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Ahmed Yayari and Daniel Woyengikuro were widely regarded as members of the Makinde-backed Turaki faction of the PDP. Their replacements are associated with the Wike-backed camp, which has already secured recognition by the electoral commission.
Previous Recognitions and Uncertainty
Prior to the latest update, INEC had recognised Abdulrahman Mohammed as the PDP National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, both aligned with the Wike faction. However, the retention of Yayari and Woyengikuro on the party’s executive list had generated uncertainty over the status of other national officers.
Full Alignment Now Achieved
With the latest changes, all officials currently listed as members of the PDP National Working Committee on the INEC portal are now aligned with the faction recognised by the commission. This development is expected to trigger fresh reactions within the opposition party as internal leadership disputes continue ahead of key political activities and preparations for future elections.
Further details are expected as the situation evolves.
