Kaduna APC Groups Rally Behind Shehu Sani for 2027 Senate Return
Kaduna APC Groups Back Shehu Sani for 2027 Senate

The Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups has called on the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial District to ensure Senator Shehu Sani emerges victorious in the 2027 elections, citing his proven track record of quality representation in the National Assembly.

Press Conference in Kaduna

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, the Director General of the APC Support Groups in Kaduna, Professor Kailani Muhammad, highlighted Senator Sani's achievements during the 8th Senate. He emphasized that Sani's presence and representation are crucial for the development of Kaduna Central and Nigeria at large.

“We are gathered here today at a critical crossroads in our political journey. We are not here simply to discuss the mechanics of an election or the technicalities of party loyalty. We are here to talk about the soul of our district,” Muhammad stated. “The people of Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru, and our metropolitan heart in Kaduna North and South are asking for something more than a representative. They are asking for a voice that doesn't just whisper in Abuja, but one that roars for the common man right here at home.”

A Symbol of Courage and Empathy

Professor Muhammad described Sani as a symbol of courage, consistency, and empathy. “He was the Senator who told the truth when it was hard to say. He broke the culture of secrecy by publicly declaring his earnings, proving that he believed the people were the true owners of the mandate,” he noted.

Muhammad further highlighted Sani's role as a shield against policies and loans that would burden future generations. “Politics in this country can often feel robotic and cold. But we are tired of robotic leadership. We need a Senator who is human, someone who feels the heartbeat of the streets,” he added.

Key Achievements of Senator Shehu Sani

Professor Muhammad listed several specific achievements from Sani's tenure (2015–2019), including legislative oversight, transparency, and community development.

Legislative Oversight and Debt Blocking

Sani, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, famously blocked a $350 million World Bank loan requested by the then-state government. Muhammad explained that Sani argued the state's debt profile was already unsustainable and that the loan would trap future generations in debt.

Champion of Transparency

Sani was the first Senator in Nigeria's history to publicly disclose the exact running costs and salaries of lawmakers (₦13.5 million monthly), breaking the long-standing culture of secrecy in the National Assembly. He also set a standard for accountability by publicly declaring his assets upon taking office.

Health and Social Infrastructure

According to Muhammad, Sani facilitated the construction and equipping of several Primary Healthcare Centers across all seven local governments of Kaduna Central, especially in underserved rural areas. He also oversaw the installation of over 200 solar-powered boreholes and hand-pump wells to tackle water crises in communities like Birnin Gwari, Chikun, and Kajuru. Additionally, he initiated the distribution and installation of hundreds of solar streetlights to improve nighttime security and boost local businesses.

Education and Empowerment

Sani built and renovated dozens of classroom blocks in public schools across the district. Through his constituency office, he maintained a consistent welfare program, providing food items, clothing, and financial grants to widows, orphans, and internally displaced persons. He also distributed hundreds of empowerment tools, including sewing machines, grinding machines, and motorcycles, to help youth and women start businesses.

Security and Peace Advocacy

Muhammad noted that Sani provided patrol vehicles and communication equipment to local vigilante groups, especially in banditry-prone areas. Using his background as a human rights activist, he personally intervened in communal clashes, promoting peace dialogues between ethnic and religious groups.

Direct Human Impact

Sani sponsored numerous free medical outreaches, providing surgeries, eye exams, and free medications to thousands of constituents. He also provided free legal representation for indigent citizens held in correctional centers without trial.

Call to Action

Professor Muhammad stressed that the APC is a party of progress and transformation. “To fully realize the Renewed Hope agenda, we must ensure that the Red Chamber is filled with Renewed Strength. Shehu Sani is not a stranger to this struggle. He is a comrade, a human rights crusader, and a veteran who has spent his life in the trenches for justice. His return to the Senate is a restoration of the people's power.”

He concluded by calling on all support groups across the seven local governments to mobilize grassroots support. “Let us bring back the man who has always been the voice for the voiceless. Let us return Shehu Sani to the Red Chamber so that Kaduna Central can once again be the heartbeat of advocacy in Nigeria.”
