The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has unanimously adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party's sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, backing their endorsement with a N50 million contribution for the purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms.
Endorsement of Governor Yusuf
Similarly, the party's stakeholders sanctioned their endorsement for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to return for a second term in office. The endorsements were declared during the party's expanded stakeholders' meeting held at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House on Thursday evening.
Prior to the unanimous affirmation, Managing Director of Hadejia Jama'are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, moved the motion for the adoption of President Tinubu, seconded by former Secretary to the Government of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi. Additionally, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, moved the motion for the endorsement of Governor Yusuf as the sole governorship candidate of the party in 2027. The speaker confirmed the purchase of the nomination and interest forms by the stakeholders for the return of Governor Yusuf for a second term.
Presentation of Forms
Presenting the forms on behalf of the stakeholders, the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stated that the gesture was in fulfilment of the collective decision to adopt the governor as the party's consensus candidate. “We have already agreed that you are our sole governorship candidate and in order to actualise that promise, I hereby hand over these two important forms to you, the expression of interest form and the nomination form to be duly completed and submitted,” he said.
The stakeholders noted that the purchase of the forms reflects their collective resolve to sustain unity within the party, enabling the governor to consolidate on the developmental strides recorded under the present administration. They further emphasised that the consensus arrangement is aimed at ensuring stability, cohesion, and a seamless electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
Governor Yusuf's Response
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the gesture and reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, people-oriented policies, and the continued development of Kano State. He commended the stakeholders for their show of confidence and unwavering support, calling on all party members to remain united in advancing the progress and prosperity of the state.
Support for President Tinubu
On the endorsement of the President, APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa disclosed that the state chapter had initially intended to purchase the nomination forms outright but resolved instead to contribute financially in support of the president's candidature. “We have agreed to contribute the sum of N50 million towards the purchase of the expression of interest and nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
The stakeholders noted that the endorsement reflects their confidence in the president's leadership and ongoing reforms, as well as their collective resolve to ensure the party's success in the 2027 general elections.
