The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Saliu Yakubu Danladi (SYD), has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election. The announcement was made on Friday by the chairman of the Kwara State governorship primary committee and returning officer, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Landslide Victory
According to Obanikoro, Danladi secured a total of 94,990 votes, a decisive victory over his closest rival, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, who garnered 41,500 votes. Other aspirants included Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa with 22,118 votes, Raheem Oloriegbe with 3,910 votes, Muhammad Bio with 1,122 votes, Muhammad Belgore with 3,411 votes, and Toyin Alabi with 1,099 votes.
Call for Sportsmanship
Obanikoro urged all aspirants to accept the outcome with sportsmanship and remain loyal party members. He noted that the primary, originally scheduled for Thursday, was postponed due to logistical reasons and thanked party members for their steadfastness and trust in the APC.
“We appreciate your toughness, loyalty, and confidence in APC for turning out en masse for today’s primary. By that, you have shown the world that you are ready to win the 2027 governorship and other elections,” Obanikoro stated.
Party Chairman’s Remarks
Earlier, the state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, expressed relief that the exercise was conducted peacefully. In his welcome address at the state Banquet Hall, he said, “Elsewhere, the situation could have led to chaos, but in our case, God saw us through.”
