Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Magaji, a Nigerian entrepreneur, infrastructure developer, and political mobiliser, has donated ₦20 million in support of the re-election bid of Hon. Shittu Ibrahim Aremu, the lawmaker representing Saki West Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly. Magaji disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Sunday, explaining that his decision was informed by Aremu’s performance, resilience, and leadership record during his first term, rather than partisan considerations. He described Aremu as a committed and results-driven representative whose return to the Assembly would further advance the interests of his constituents.
“By now, you all know where I stand when it comes to leadership in Nigeria. For me, it is about quality leadership or nothing,” Magaji said. “I am always ready to support anyone I believe can deliver, and that is why I am fully backing my brother, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim Aremu. I have known him for a considerable period and have seen firsthand the impactful work he delivered during his first term. He deserves the opportunity to continue, which is why I have committed ₦20 million to support his campaign.”
Speaking on the political dynamics in Oyo State, Magaji noted that although the state is governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aremu has distinguished himself as one of the few opposition lawmakers making a visible impact. “In a state like Oyo, which is firmly under PDP control, Hon. Aremu stands out as one of only three APC members in the State House of Assembly. Yet, his performance has made the opposition relevant, vibrant, and impossible to ignore,” Magaji said.
He added that Aremu’s effectiveness has come despite what he described as political resistance from the ruling party. “As a state assembly member, he has given the ruling party a real run for their money. Despite several frustrations—including attempts to deprive his constituency of development and even halting an ongoing road construction project—he remained firm and unwavering in his commitment to his people and to the APC,” he stated.
Magaji further commended Aremu’s loyalty to his party, revealing that the lawmaker rejected several attempts to defect to the PDP. “He turned down several requests and lobbying efforts to join the PDP. That alone speaks volumes about his character, loyalty, and integrity. Today, I must say he has made us all proud,” he added.
Aremu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has earned recognition for his legislative effectiveness and grassroots engagement since assuming office. His tenure has been marked by active participation in lawmaking, strategic constituency outreach, and projects focused on improving education, infrastructure and youth empowerment in Saki West.
Magaji particularly praised Aremu’s diligence in oversight functions, noting that the lawmaker has consistently held government agencies accountable and ensured prudent use of public resources. “His track record speaks for itself. His performance in oversight has been commendable, ensuring that government agencies and projects are properly monitored and held accountable,” Magaji added. “This level of diligence protects public resources and guarantees that projects meant for the people are effectively executed.”
Beyond legislative duties, Aremu is also credited with facilitating developmental initiatives across his constituency, including community-based projects and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for young people.
Magaji, who currently serves as the North Central Zonal Youth Coordinator for the City Boy Movement, a political group supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said his support for Aremu aligns with his broader commitment to promoting credible leadership across the country. “My vision is not limited by geography or group affiliations. I am committed to supporting young, capable leaders across the country, and Hon. Aremu represents that vision,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of continuity in governance, arguing that re-electing Aremu would ensure the completion of ongoing projects and consolidation of existing gains. “I am a firm believer in continuity because it drives progress. Returning Aremu to office will ensure that ongoing projects and constituency initiatives are not abandoned. It allows for the consolidation of achievements rather than starting afresh with a new representative,” Magaji stated.
Magaji called on constituents in Saki West to sustain their support for the lawmaker, describing him as a “tested and trusted leader” with a proven track record. “With what he has done so far, I believe the people of Saki West understand the value of effective representation. I urge them to stand firmly behind him once again,” he said.
