Niger Delta Group Backs Chinda for Rivers 2027

The Niger Delta Development Ambassadors (NDDA) has officially endorsed Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as the consensus governorship candidate of the emerging Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by its National President, King David Attah, the group highlighted Chinda's political experience, legislative competence, and cross-party appeal as key factors that align with the coalition's vision of stability, inclusive governance, and sustainable development.

The NDDA also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for fostering a more inclusive democratic culture through the coalition arrangement currently gaining traction in Rivers politics.

According to the NDDA, the Rainbow Coalition is a strategic political alliance that unites various political interests and tendencies beyond partisan divisions to pursue peace, stability, and development in Rivers State. The group described the coalition as a significant departure from divisive politics, reflecting political maturity and a growing desire among stakeholders to prioritize governance over conflict.

“The Rainbow Coalition represents a significant transition from politics driven by hostility, rivalry and exclusion to one anchored on consultation, accommodation and collective responsibility,” the statement read. “We commend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for encouraging a political atmosphere where leaders from different political backgrounds can work together in pursuit of stability, democratic growth and development.”

The organization noted that Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is one of the few political figures in Rivers State with strong relationships across multiple political blocs and ideological lines. His years of legislative experience and understanding of governance, lawmaking, and public administration position him well to sustain political balance within the coalition framework.

The NDDA emphasized that Rivers State needs leadership capable of uniting competing interests while focusing on infrastructure, economic growth, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and security. “Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda has demonstrated capacity, political maturity, and the ability to build bridges across divides. At this critical stage in Rivers politics, the state requires consensus builders rather than politicians driven by bitterness and endless confrontation,” Attah stated.

The group also commended the conduct of the APC primaries in Rivers State, describing the process as peaceful, orderly, and reflective of improving democratic maturity among political actors. According to the NDDA, the calm atmosphere surrounding the primaries contrasts with the tension and instability that previously characterized political contests in the state.

The organization urged political stakeholders across party lines to sustain the current atmosphere of dialogue, restraint, and cooperation as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to evolve. It added that the long-term success of the Rainbow Coalition would depend on its ability to place governance, development, and the welfare of Rivers people above narrow political interests and personal ambitions.

Finally, the NDDA called on youths, traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society groups to support initiatives that promote peace, political inclusion, and long-term democratic stability in the state ahead of the next electoral cycle.
