Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and other prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State have assured party members that the candidature of Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 governorship election is a settled matter. The party chieftains made this known during Hamzat's ongoing consultation visits across the state.
Obasa Affirms Hamzat's Candidacy
Obasa, who received the deputy governor at his GRA residence in Ikeja, declared that Hamzat's candidature has been sealed. He stated, 'I had discussions with those that matter, but the conclusion is that Hamzat will carry the banner of the party. We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure that we win the election. I just returned from Abuja, and the conversation remains the same: Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is the next Governor of Lagos State.'
Obanikoro and Others Rally Support
Senator Obanikoro praised Hamzat's pedigree, describing him as a committed and competent technocrat. He expressed confidence that Hamzat's leadership would sustain Lagos's growth trajectory. Senator Ganiyu Solomon urged residents of Mushin to vote en masse for President Bola Tinubu, Hamzat, and other APC candidates, calling on Nigerians to disregard critics of the APC-led government.
Party Chairman Reiterates Backing
Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, while receiving Hamzat at the party secretariat in Ogba, reaffirmed the party's support for his aspiration. 'We support you, we trust you, and we are confident of your competence and humility,' he said.
Hamzat's Vision for Lagos
In response, Hamzat outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing that Lagos is too strategic to Nigeria's development to fail. He called for a resounding victory for President Tinubu and the APC in 2027, warning against a repeat of the 2023 election outcome. He accused opposition elements of attempting to 'de-market' the administration, attributing such efforts to their inability to win elections.
Alakija Backs Tinubu's Re-election
Meanwhile, Mayowa Israel Alakija, an aspirant for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, urged Nigerians to support Tinubu's re-election and sustain APC's dominance at both federal and state levels in 2027. Alakija, who has begun consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the constituency, said retaining the APC would guarantee continuity and enable Nigerians to benefit from ongoing reforms.
