“Having satisfied the requirements of APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, he is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned as the party candidate of Delta State APC,” Okafor said.
Direct Primary Model Adopted
The primary election was conducted using the direct primary model, which allowed participation from party members across the state's wards and local government areas. This approach reportedly encouraged broad grassroots involvement.
Governor Commends Party Leadership
After participating in the exercise at his Oha Ward in Okpe Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori commended the APC leadership for what he described as a transparent, peaceful, and credible process. He praised party members for their unity, discipline, and commitment to democratic principles, noting that the primary reflected the strength of internal democracy within the party.
Oborevwori emphasized that the direct primary system should serve as a model for political engagement and party administration across the country, as it encourages grassroots participation.
Call for Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections
The governor stressed the need for unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. He assured that reconciliation mechanisms would be put in place to address any grievances arising from the exercise, further strengthening cohesion within the party.
